first deinstall old Breakaway version. reboot pc and then install new version.

I think the old virtual cable (pipeline) must be completely gone, before the new can be installed.

I have tried this sequence, but Breakaway still fails with the same driver error.  Did you also reboot after installing the newer version?

i'm not sure if i booted the second time.

Did you upgrade windows 10 to the latest build?
That is 1511. this build solved some audio issues.

I did try your suggestion but the same problem still happened. On my system the problem was caused by an incompatibility between Breakaway Pipeline 1.4 and vb-cable. I uninstalled vb-cable, restarted the computer and was then able to install Breakaway Pipeline. This incompatibility did not occur until upgrading to Breakaway Pipeline 1.4. I was able to reinstall vb-cable after Breakaway Pipeline 1.4 was up and running correctly.
Thank you for all suggestions

Chalk me up to another failure.

I am receiving the same error message as others have mentioned.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted, etc.  Nothing seems to be working.  I'm about to head into my Program Files folders to start deleting anything related to Breakaway.  This is frustrating to say the least.

If I have to refresh Windows 10, it'll suck, but I guess that's the price I'll have to pay.

My installation on Win 10 Pro (x64 build 1511) went just fine, but I did however remove all old Breakaway components completely before even trying.

And just "uninstalling" the old Breakaway version doesn't remove the old pipeline. You have to remove it thru the Device manager -> Sound devices -> Right click on Breakaway pipeline and choose uninstall.

This worked for me as well.

I am trying to install BAE on my new Win10 laptop, and I'm getting the "Unable to access Pipeline driver" message.  I've tried everything on this thread, no joy.  I've also emailed support at Claesson, are they very responsive to this kind of request?

Has anyone been able to install V1.40.02 on Windows 7?  I had V1.30.02 working just fine and would like to install the latest but as reported in this thread I only get "Unable to open the Breakaway Pipeline audio transport driver."  I tried Jonas' installation tips of removing all old Breakaway components via the Device Manager and then uninstalling the Breakaway application.  Nothing was showing in the Device Manager or on the hard drive after restart.  V1.40.02 still fails.

Good news and bad news here: Claesson support has been responsive to my emails, but so far no help.  They've basically given the same "make sure the old one is uninstalled first" answer, but I never had 1.3 installed on this laptop.

My "Breakaway Pipeline Default Device" says the device is working properly and its version is 4.15.0.7317 on 2/5/2016.  So it seems the pipeline is installed.  The Breakaway executable is not seeing it.  vaclcskd.sys is not digitally signed (though I don't think that should be an issue for Win7).

OK...  Got it to work under Win7 64 bit.  Not sure if I could do this again though.  I uninstalled the broken V1.40.02 installation from the control panel and checked for Breakaway pipeline driver to be uninstalled in the Device Manager.  It was not visible, without a reboot, possibly because it wasn't actually installed.  I then did a repeat install, and was going to check the install log but found I can't seem to find the log since the installer leaves you with a new screen and a "Finish" button.  This time I tried to run the program (without a restart from the installation) and got a different error.

Error starting audio engine:
DSoundManager::Initialize failed: 88780078

Clicking "OK" and the settings screen for Breakaway came up.  This was a good sign but the configuration was somewhat confused.  I was able to configure Breakaway and close the settings page, and Breakaway came up.  Yay!  Then I realized that it had old settings for the presets, volume, range, and so on...  I then realized that my original INI file must have been still on the machine (possibly a source of the problem).  I think I was lucky that the original INI didn't stop Breakaway overall this time.

Check the path "C:\Users\<username here>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)" for any "Breakaway" folders and I'd suggest copying this (if you need values from the previous INI) and then delete the folder in this path before attempting an install.  Remember the "AppData" directory is hidden.

I'm going to try an install on another Win7 64 machine (hopefully one with no previous installation).

I completely removed the old version of Breakaway using the uninstall tool, then rebooted and installed the new version.

On the third try, I am still receiving an error stating that the Breakaway Pipeline audio transport driver cannot be opened.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit).  What can I do to fix the problem? (Cate)

It could be that the Breakaway Pipeline isn't getting installed correctly. During installation, do you see a window open that asks if you want to install the driver or not?
